Reader's essay from CET-4 test
Professor Xia gives his version of a reader's submission. The CET-4 writing topic is given at bottom left.
Before
One day in May, I suddenly learned that one of my classmates got injured. And her situation was very dangerous. It was the head that was hurt and it bled a lot. May was a critical time for us because soon, we would graduate from high school and then take the college entrance examination.
But we still spared the time from classroom and went to hospital to visit her. We told her what had happened every day in the school and meanwhile, help her with her studies. Now, her situation is becoming better. She could take care of herself and doctors said she might fully recover in two months.
The incident gave me life experience. I felt the love between people. If I am ill or injured, there will be always someone else to help me so that I won't be lonely. I feel happy to live in such a society. No matter it is happy or sad, there is someone to share together.
(This essay could score 11-12 points according to the CET marking scheme.)
After
One day in May, I suddenly learned that one of my classmates had been injured. Her head had been badly hurt and was bleeding a lot. No doubt, she was in critical condition.
The month of May was a busy time for us because very soon we would graduate from high school and take the college entrance exam. However, despite the study pressures, we still managed to find time to visit her in hospital. We told her what was happening at school every day and meanwhile, helped her with her studies. A few days later, she was much better. Now she was already able to take care of herself and the doctor said she could fully recover in two months.
The incident left me with a warm feeling. I was touched by the loving care of people. If I should fall ill or get injured, there would always be people ready to give me a hand so that I wouldn't feel helpless or lonely. I am really happy to live in such a society, one in which people share joys and sorrows no matter what happens.
